I have recently become vividly aware as to how much our body chemistry affects our dreams.
I used to have dreams that were almost epic adventures, with varying levels of lucidity every couple of days.
But...2 moths ago I was diagnosed with a heart condition and put on heart pills (I am only 45 and physically fit, so this was a big surprise), but immediately as soon as I started on those pills, my dream experiences have dropped dramatically in their vitality, their subject and my ability to be lucid. I have barely even been able to recall the dreams, but what I do recall is just boring and tedious garbage that its not even worth recalling anyway.
I have only had one slightly lucid experience, but even that was a very low level of lucidity too.
So it really seems that different medication and our body chemistry can play dramatically on our ability to have a rich full dream life.
I hope my body will be able to adapt to these meds and the dreams will return again.....time will tell. _________________ All life is only a set of pictures in the brain, among which there is no difference betwixt those born of real things and those born of inward dreamings, and no cause to value the one above the other.

That's so disappointing, to go and lose one's ability to have wonderful dreams! I really do hope your ability to have these will return. I LIVE for my dreams and always wish I could have deep rich colourful eventful ongoing lucid ones every night - which, sadly, I don't of course. It's really boring to wake up and not remember anything, or just bits of not very much!
Sometimes I do have fabulous ones and that can remain with me all the next day - which can help lift depression too. But I do worry that depression can sometimes negatively affect dreams too, making anything one does dream about seem flat and colourless. I keep hoping that the new Sertraline pills Im starting will alleviate this.
If anyone hears of some (safe) wonder pill or gadget that enhances one's dreams and the ability to remember these I want to know about it! _________________ Catbar UK

It appears my dreams are slowly returning..thankfully
However they are talking about changing my meds again, so who knows, I may be back to square one. _________________ All life is only a set of pictures in the brain, among which there is no difference betwixt those born of real things and those born of inward dreamings, and no cause to value the one above the other.

It is well known that different medications can have an ability to affect dreams. Since your dreams are starting to go back to the way they were, it can be a sign that your body is starting to adjust to this side effect, the same way that your body might adjust to any other side effects.
The only thing you can do is wait and see what happens when your medication is adjusted.
The shock and anxiety from learning about your condition could also have had an effect. _________________ http://www.meaningofdreams.org |
