Panel 1: Academic Studies on Dreams and Creativity

Michael Schredl: An Overview of Academic Studies of Dreams and Creativity:

Michael Schredl, Ph.d. works in the Sleep Laboratory, Central Institute of Mental Health, Mannheim, Germany. He has worked in the field of dream research since 1990, has published many articles and has served on the IASD Board of Directors.



Antti Revonsuo/Katja Valli: The Threat Simulation Theory of Dreams and Creativity

Antti Revonsuo, Ph.d., is a Fellow of the Academy of Finland at the Department of Philosophy, Center for Cognitive Neuroscience, University of Turku. Revonsuo is European Editor of the journal Consciousness and Cognition. He has published widely in cognitive neuroscience, neuropsychology, and consciousness studies. His next book is Inner Presence (MIT Press, January 2006) on the unified science of consciousness and dreaming.

Katja Valli is a Ph.d. student in psychology at the University of Turku. She is currently preparing her dissertation on the biological function of dreaming, testing the threat simulation theory of dreaming proposed by Prof. Antti Revonsuo.



Pia Skogemann: The Dream as a Creative Expression

Pia Skogemann, MA in history of religion and archaeology, is a Jungian analyst and a supervisor for the Danish Psychologist Association. She is the author of more than 10 books on dreams, psychology, religion and literary analysis. She is a member of the board of the International Association for Analytical Psychology, IAAP.



11.30 – 12.45

Panel 2: Dreams, Creativity and Education:

Gitte Svenning and Jette Cabo: Dreams and Creativity in the Classroom

Gitte Svenning is trained at “The Chaos Pilots”, Århus, Denmark. She is headmaster, Children’s University, Copenhagen, and has worked with a group of teachers and students at the Children’s University on a project using dreams and creativity in the classroom.

Jette Cabo is a freelance anthropologist and former schoolteacher working with dreams from an anthropological-pedagogical perspective. She conducts dream workshops for children and for adults working with children. She is writing a book on her fieldwork in a Catalan primary school during three months of 2001.



Speaker from Sweden (tbc): Dreamgroups and Creativity with Children

Experiential Workshop: Dreams, Creativity and Art therapy

Replaces workshop previously agreed by Ole Vedfelt.

Introduction to a Group Approach to Appreciating Dreams

Montague Ullmann, M.D.



The presentation will be through web-video-transmission/video direct from New York, where Montague Ullmann resides.

Dr. Ullman is known all over the world for introducing a methodology for appreciating dreams in groups, suitable for the general public and as a way of teaching about dreams to those involved in the practice of psychotherapy. Montague Ullmann received his medical degree in 1938 and is former head of department of psychiatry at the Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn. He has published extensively and is Clinical Professor Emeritus, Dept. of Psychiatry, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and a Charter Fellow of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis.



Introduction to Montague Ullmann will be done by Gunnar Sundström, chairman of the Association Dröm Grupps Forum, Sweden, basing its work on Dr. Ullmann’s methods. The method will be applied in practice in the morning dream groups Sunday morning.



19.00 Dinner and Social and artistic program



Sunday, March 26th: Morning Dream Group and Network Breakfast Meeting

9.00- 10.30 Morning Dream Group organised by “Dröm Grupps Forum”.



10.30 –12.00

Nordic/European Network BREAKFAST MEETING

Nordic and European experiences and opportunities in the study of dreams

Formation of Nordic network. Appointment of contact group covering all countries.

Next Nordic and European meetings.


The conference language will be English to accommodate the participation of non-Scandinavian speakers. Depending on the number of participants, dream groups may be in Scandinavian languages also.
