FEBRUARY 2008 EVENTS IN
CALIFORNIA, ILLINOIS, AND NORTH CAROLINA

CALIFORNIA

Come dream with Victoria Rabinowe by the sea in beautiful La Jolla, California!

The weekend will begin with a free lecture about turning dreams into books at the Atheneum Music and Arts Library - Friday, February 22, 2008, 7:30 pm. Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, 1008 Wall Street, La Jolla.

Victoria will also be teaching a workshop, THE ART OF THE DREAM, February 23, 24, 2008, 9:00 am–4:00 pm, Pat D’Arrigo ARTS Center, 2820 Roosevelt Road, Suite 106, Liberty Station, sponsored by the San Diego Book Arts Group.

In the workshop, participants will be sharing dreams and learning how to work with them without seeking "interpretations" or "analysis." Attendees will drop into their hearts and step aside from their monkey minds!

Each dreamer will make an individual dream book or fill journal pages with dream imagery. This class will be appealing to artists, writers, teachers, therapists and dreamers of all backgrounds.

TRACES OF THE JOURNEY
Victoria will give a presentation of Artists’ Books filled with intuitive and experimental approaches to the wild, paradoxical and enigmatic images of the night. Her talk will include her own books in addition to the work of ten Santa Fe book artists who participate in her weekly “Art of the Dream” workshops. The dream-inspired books include paintings, printings, poetry, prose, digital imagery, photography, calligraphy and collage.

THE ART OF THE DREAM
Create a book filled with dream-inspired artwork that investigates the realm of enchantment, the landscape of myth, and the genius of the night mind. Guided techniques in dream work, image making and creative writing will transform the curious wanderings of the night mind into books filled with the archetypal themes of personal metaphor and symbolic imagery.

Bring a dream. It can be a recent dream or one from any time in your life. If you don’t consider yourself a dreamer, start now by keeping a journal, a pen and a small flashlight by the side of your bed. Ask for a dream before you go to sleep and stay in bed for a few moments in the morning before getting up and into the day’s activity. Train yourself to jot down any fragments and any dream material whether it makes sense or not. Try to take a moment at breakfast to reread and clarify your notes. If you are in the habit of journaling or meditating, take time to muse upon some of the characters, events or emotions that come up without any need to “interpret.”

Victoria Rabinowe is a multimedia artist whose work is profoundly inspired by her dreams. She believes that dreams are one of the most authentic links to the creative source. Trained in advanced DreamTending at Pacifica Graduate Institute, she has taught over 500 workshops, seminars and retreats in the art and craft of dream work to artists, writers, therapists, teachers and spiritual guidance counselors. She is an annual presenter at the International Association for the Study of Dreams. You can find out more about Victoria at

Bring a dream

All participants should bring a journal or notebook to work in. We will do collage and writing dream exercises on Saturday before building our books and doing our final project on Sunday.

Bring magazines for collage work: High quality art, nature and national geographic style magazines. If you have the time, tear out the best pictures and toss the rest. For beginners: A journal or blank book, scissors, glue stick. For more advanced book artists: Bring an ongoing journal, a blank book (one of those books you've made in another workshop), or paper and tools to make a book. Bring your favorite art supplies.

Keep in mind that this workshop is content driven. We will be using creative techniques to unravel the dream. The book form will follow the content.

ILLINOIS

Healing through the Imagination
Weekend Workshop with Robert Moss
Orrington Hotel, Evanston, Illinois
May 17 & 18, 2008
10-5 Saturday, 10-4 Sunday

About the Workshop: We can reach inner sources of healing and bring them to work in our bodies and our lives through the practice of imagination, that great faculty of soul which (as William Blake said) can create worlds.
The practice of imagination involves developing personal images that help our bodies stay well and give us juice in our life journeys. The body believes in imagery; it does not seem to distinguish between a physical event and a powerful image. Where do we get the imagery that works for us? In this fun, high-energy class, we'll learn how to harvest fresh and custom-designed imagery for healing from dreams, meditation and creative flow.
With the aid of focused intention and heartbeat shamanic drumming, we'll embark on a hyper-awake dream journey to discover an inner space for self-healing to which we can return.
We’ll remember that healing comes through when we tap into the deeper story of our lives. Joseph Campbell maintained, correctly, that healing is what happens when we move “beyond suffering into myth.”
We’ll learn to tell better stories, drop our negative mantras and self-limiting beliefs and claim the power of reinventing our lives and our world
