MINDFUL DREAMING: DREAMWORK AS SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
David Gordon, Ph.D. and Dani Vedros, LCSW invite you to join us for a four day Mindful Dreaming workshop and retreat at the Kripalu Center in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts.

Learn how every nightly dream offers a new perspective to your waking consciousness--an extraordinary depth of information about your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being not typically available to your waking mind.

Based on David Gordon’s book Mindful Dreaming, he and Dani Vedros will show you how to move beyond intellectual insight about your dreams to experience the deeper knowing that comes from embodying dream wisdom.

Learn how dreams call us to practice mindfulness, release the five habits of thought (ego strategies) at the core of our suffering, and embrace the five perennial values of our wiser Self.
Speaking in the simple language of metaphor, dreams teach us to:
• Release distraction and honor solitude
• Let go of control and accept guidance
• Release judgment and embrace compassion and self-caring
• Let go of attachment and move past grief
• Release impatience to live more consciously and fully awake in the present moment.

You will return home with an integrated spiritual practice grounded each night in the profoundly healing values of your dreams.

Dates: July 5-9, 2010
Recommended reading: Mindful Dreaming by David Gordon, (New Page Books).

NORTH CAROLINA

JOURNEY CONFERENCE: "MOVING TOWARD WHOLENESS"
OCTOBER 14-17, 2010 www.journeyconferences.com
WITH SPECIAL PRE-CONFERENCE EVENTS ON OCTOBER 13, 2010*

This International "dream thick" conference, hosted by IASD Board Member, Tom Lane (www.understandyourdream.com) , on Spirituality and Jungian Psychology boasts three featured presenters and a myriad of expert-led workshops along with special events at a beautiful Mountaintop conference center on the North Carolina Blue Ridge Parkway.

Featuring:
THE BOOKS OF NIGHT AND DAY: LEARNING FROM BISHOP SYNESIUS OF CYRENE HOW TO PRACTICE DREAMWORK AS REAL CHURCH with Robert Moss

We have direct access to sacred knowledge, in our dreams. Our dreams are a personal oracle that reveals the future and helps us prepare for it. We must not let anyone tell us what our dreams mean or stand between us and the direct experience of the sacred that is available in dreaming. We want to pay attention to signs from the world around us in the knowledge that everything in the universe is interconnected and constantly interweaving. We need to journal both our dreams and our waking experiences in our Books of Night and Day.

These insights come from a fifth-century bishop of the church, Synesius of Cyrene, whose treatise On Dream is one of the wisest books ever written on how to work with dreams and synchronicity. We can learn from him how to practice dreamwork as real church, and move beyond the sad situation Jung evoked when he said that “one of the main functions of formalized religion is to protect people against a direct experience of God.”

TAPPING THE POWER OF DREAMS, COINCIDENCE AND IMAGINATION with Robert Moss

In this fun, high-energy program we'll learn techniques for empowering and healing our lives, every day, through dreams, coincidence and imagination.

Dreaming, we have access to rich sources of healing and creativity. In our dreams, we are coached on how to handle challenges and opportunities that lie in the future; we become time travelers and communicate with spiritual teachers and allies.

Coincidence may be a signal from a deeper world, and a chance encounter may be an amazing opportunity. By monitoring the play of coincidence, we awaken to a hidden logic of events, and gain access to extraordinary counsel. Synchronicity opens paths we never noticed before, and draws new people and events towards us according to our passions and our willingness to go with the flow.

Through the practice of imagination, we can help to heal our bodies and move towards the manifestation of our heart’s desires. As Tagore said, with a poet’s insight, “the stronger the imagination, the less imaginary the results.”

Robert Moss is the pioneer of Active Dreaming, an original synthesis of shamanism and modern dreamwork. Born in Australia, he survived three near-death experiences in childhood. He leads popular seminars all over the world, including a three-year training for teachers of Active Dreaming and a lively online dream school. A former lecturer in ancient history at the Australian National University, he is a best-selling novelist, journalist and independent scholar. His seven books on dreaming and imagination include Conscious Dreaming, Dreamgates, The Three "Only" Things: Tapping the Power of Dreams, Coincidence and Imagination and The Secret History of Dreaming. His novels include his cycle of the Iroquois: Fire Along the Sky, The Firekeeper and The Interpreter. His website is www.mossdreams.com.

EDGE OF THE FORREST with Muriel E. McMahon
In this lecture, Jungian analyst and First Nations Elder, Muriel McMahon discusses how the roots of Ancient wisdom, born from all traditions, remind us of our place in the cycle of Life. To awaken we must journey to the Edge of the Forest, and acknowledge the grief which clouds our vision, tightens our throats, and sits heavy on our hearts. We must re-member how to sit together, and through ceremony, open our eyes, throats, and hearts to the wisdom of the Ancient Ones who are ever with us and ever praying for us.

Muriel E. McMahon, www.murielmcmahon.com , is an analyst, teacher, and Elder in the Algonkin, Kipawa First Nations tradition. Raised as an Irish Catholic in small town Ontario, CANADA, counselled out of the Sisters of Providence, schooled in English Literature and psychology, retired from a successful career as a high school guidance counsellor/vice principal, trained as a Jungian analyst in Zurich Switzerland, she is currently in private practice in Guelph, ON. CANADA. Her connections to her indigenous roots (Celtic and Native), her professional pursuits, her creative writing, her daily walks along the Speed River with her dog Shadow, her full family life with her husband parenting three adult sons, and her Jungian analytical practice affirm her belief that the “tribal unconscious” and the “primitive psyche” can lead all of us back home to the Sacred Fire of the Great Peace. She is passionate about dreams and community building and is a ardent supporter of the work of Soul of the Mother www.soulofthemother.org.

CARL JUNG AND CHRISTIANITY with The Rev. John L. Martin, D. Min.
In this lecture, John will lead us in an exploration of the role of symbol in Carl Jung’s understanding of religious faith. In so doing, he will provide a lens through which we will be enabled to view a post-modern alternative to the traditional approaches one finds in the Christian churches of today.
Dr. Martin is a retired Presbyterian (USA) minister. He is a former board chair and one among the favorite presenters and teachers at "Journey into Wholeness." Along with his wife, Carolyn, he teaches the very popular Journey Conferences Pre-conference event: "Language of the Soul" seminar, which they have been teaching and refining for more than twenty years.

Additional dream-related events and workshops to be announced. You can get more information about the conferences, including registration details at www.journeyconferences.com

THE LANGUAGE OF THE SOUL Led by The Rev. John L. Martin, D.Min. and Carolyn Martin, M.R.E.
The purpose of this seminar is to familiarize the participants with the basic concepts of Jungian Psychology. We have discovered that the best way to do this is in terms of a living model of the psyche as it was understood by Jung. The seminar is structured to allow us to do just this. In order to communicate his understanding of the human psyche Jung developed his own vocabulary and an understanding of this vocabulary is important is appropriating Jung’s psychology for our personal lives.

DREAM CATCHER GATHERING
Led by: Muriel McMahon
A North American Hopi prophesy teaches:
Great Spirit gathered the peoples of this earth together… He said to the human beings, "I'm going to send you to four directions and over time I'm going to change you to four colors, but I'm going to give you some teachings and you will call these the Original Teachings and when you come back together with each other you will share these Original Teachings so that you can live and have peace on earth, and a great civilization will come about."

Join Canadian analyst Muriel McMahon, Elder in the Algonkin First Nations Tradition in a pre-conference Dream Catcher gathering. Muriel will share Traditional story and song. In this gathering we will begin to come back together with each other and share these Original Teachings so that you can live and have peace on earth, and a great civilization will come about. You will be invited to tie Dream Catcher ribbons to Snowdrop Dreaming (hand drum) and share your pre-conference dreams.
Preparing for the Sacred with Muriel McMahon

PREPARING SACRED SPACE is a responsibility and a response-ability of indigenous and land based cultures. Join Canadian analyst Muriel McMahon, Elder in the Algonkin First Nations Tradition for teachings and experiential preparations for conference Ceremonies. You will learn how to purify and prepare yourself, the teaching Lodges, the gathering places, and the Ceremonial Fire circles. You will make Prayer ties and be invited to assist in Ceremonial protocol in the First Nations Traditions.

GOING TO THE LAND with Muriel McMahon
Thursday Afternoon, October 14, 2-4 PM
Indigenous wisdom teaches that our Ancient Ones inhabit the forests, mountains, rivers, and the plains of Turtle Island. When we walk on Grandmother Turtle’s back, we walk on the bones of our ancestors. Join Canadian analyst Muriel McMahon, Elder in the Algonkin First Nations Tradition on an inspirational and ceremonial walk into the beauty and mystery of Laurel Ridge. With nearly 700 acres of woods, hiking trails, waterfalls, and spectacular mountain views we will “Go To The Land” to ask the Ancient Ones to bless our conference. We will offer sacred tobacco to the Keepers of the seven directions. We make a food offering to our winged, one legged, and four legged brothers and sisters. We will hike the property and return to a small fire for Ceremony.

HEALING FROM WITHIN™
Combining Psychology and Spirituality to Heal the Soul
Led by: Benig Mauger
‘An understanding of the transcendent and mystical that is deeply grounded in the psychological is necessary if we are not to get bogged down in the narcissism of ‘woundology’, or swept away by an ungrounded mysticism that promises healing without struggle.’*
Over half a century after Jung, in an increasingly fragmented world, man is still in search of his soul. Despite being told that wholeness and love lie within us, in our ‘quick fix’ society, we often look for answers outside of ourselves and remain trapped in our wounds thus hampering our spiritual growth.

Psychology teaches us that we repeat emotional patterns so that to heal we must revisit the parts of us that have splintered off due to hurt or trauma. The teachings of spirituality, on the other hand, tell us that to find inner peace we must practice forgiveness and acceptance. How do we do this? How do we learn to reconcile our emotional wounding with being able to forgive? How do we heal so that we can practice unconditional love and live in harmony not simply with ourselves, but with others?

Wednesday evening, with her unique way of blending psychology and spirituality, Jungian psychotherapist and author Benig Mauger will share how true healing comes from within and how to travel into this profound terrain of the heart.

* From ‘Love in a Time of Broken Heart: Healing From Within’, by Benig Mauger . Thursday, using meditation, art, movement and dream work, this experiential workshop will examine how soul patterns, transmitted to us in early life, influence our relationships. It will offer a framework for understanding how these imprints are played out in our lives. Additionally, since the union of the masculine and feminine within is essential to individual spiritual wellbeing, participants will discover how heartbreak can be a sacred initiation leading us to love and compassion. With myth and poetry to illustrate the journey to the Inner Marriage, this workshop will help you heal your heart from wounds you feel have held you back. Identifying your own habitual patterns in relationships will help you balance your male and female energies and recover a sense of your inner wholeness and spiritual purpose.

Benig Mauger www.soul-connections.com is Jungian psychotherapist, poet, speaker and author from Ireland. Well known in her native land and Europe, she now lives part of the year in Florida and is beginning to expand her work in the U.S. In 1986, she established the Holistic Birth Centre in London and is regarded as a pioneer in pre- and perinatal psychology in recognizing the spiritual aspects of birth and how the birth experience affects the journey through life. Founder member of IAPA (Irish Analytical Psychology Association), Benig later also founded Soul Connections, which aims to restore soul to everyday living. She is author of numerous books and articles. some of which have been published in the USA, Britain, Russia, Germany, Australia and Greece.

At the main conference, "Moving Toward Wholeness," there will also be special events and sixteen workshops. For workshops and special events information see http://www.journeyconferences.com/conferenceinformation.htm

VERMONT

NORTH OF EDEN – ARCHETYPAL DREAMWORK

Archetypal Dreamwork is a psycho-spiritual process which dissolves the obstacles that keep us separate from love. Through our feelings selves, we find our sensual, alive selves – the self that knows how to feel love and be loved. By journeying through the feeling corridors of our dreams, we find our way back to joy, passion and our aliveness. By reclaiming our feeling selves, we heal and begin to grow.

North of Eden is a group of teachers and therapists dedicated to this unique process of Archetypal Dreamwork. We offer One-on-One Therapy, Dreamwork Retreats and Classes/Programs through our Center for Archetypal Dreamwork. Our website is www.northofeden.com.

LIVING THE RED BOOK – PRESENTING ARCHETYPAL DREAMWORK AT THE IASD ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Marc Bregman and Christa Lancaster, along with other teachers of Archetypal Dreamwork, are thrilled to be presenting Archetypal Dreamwork at the IASD Conference this summer in North Carolina.

Marc and Christa will demonstrate this work through String Therapy, a unique and lively way of working with dreams in a group. They will work with a volunteer in the workshop who will be invited to share several dreams to be enacted by others from the audience, under Marc and Christa’s guidance. Anything in the dream is open to being enacted—a person, an object, a feeling, an unseen voice, a belief held by the dreamer, a tornado, the car the dreamer is driving. As the dreams unfold, Marc and Christa will work with the dreamer through associations to fully explore the message the dreams reveal.

Working with dreams in this way offers an immediate, visceral, and often surprising experience of ourselves, revealing the truth of our present experience and pointing the way toward who we can become.

UPCOMING DREAMWORK RETREAT
We have intensive 5-day dreamwork retreats at our Retreat Center on Norris Mountain in northern Vermont, just north of Eden, Vermont. Our next retreat is July 20-25, 2010.

Located on Norris Mountain, the retreat center is located on 125 acres of pristine Vermont wilderness, with views north to Jay’s Peak all the way over the Canadian border to Bear Mountain in Southern Quebec. There are two ponds for swimming, extensive trails for hiking, snow shoeing and back country cross-country skiing.

The Retreat Center itself is two post and beam buildings with a mahogany porch facing into the view, a large fireplace for cozy fires, a FIR Sauna, and a quiet room. Each room in the newly completed dormitory is furnished with custom Vermont-made furniture with luxurious linens.
