About Antonio Zadra

Antonio Zadra, Ph.D., is a Full Professor in the Department of Psychology, Université de Montreal, Research Scholar of the Quebec Mental Health Research Fund, and Director of the university’s Dream Laboratory. His classes include an undergraduate course on dreams and a graduate seminar on sleep disorders. He is a past member of the ASD Board of Directors. His research interests include recurrent dreams, nightmares, somnambulism, psychological correlates of dream content, and the assessment and treatment of dream-related disorders.

Favorite dream ever: Riding on the back of a polar bear in the arctic. Close 2nd: my numerous flying dreams during childhood.

Favorite dream book: Hervey de Saint-Denys. Dreams and how to guide them (1982; Original work published 1867 as Les rêves et les moyens de les diriger). A truly outstanding and pioneering work that explores the experimental study of dream phenomenology, the limits of dream cognition, and lucid dreaming. Many of his ideas on dreams and their origins remain relevant almost 150 years after he first proposed them.

My notes on the IASD

First joined IASD in the late 1980's via George Baylor, a dream researcher based in Montreal. I attended my first IASD conference in 1989 (London, England), which turned out to be a momentous event in my desire to become a dream researcher. As a young student, I was overwhelmed by the presence and friendliness of so many people interested in dreams, including Patricia Garfield, Gayle Delaney, Paul Tholey, Stephen LaBerge, Milton Kramer, Ernest Hartmann, Alan Moffitt… What a dream!
