Barry Krakow, MD is the founder of the Nightmare Treatment Center. Dr. Krakow is a board certified sleep disorders specialist with an international reputation as a pioneer and expert in the treatment of chronic nightmares and disturbing dreams. His ten years of research at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine has established him as the top investigator in the use of cognitive-behavioral methods for the treatment of chronic nightmares and disturbing dreams. He is currently an associate research professor of emergency medicine and psychiatry and has published numerous professional articles on nightmares and nightmare therapy. He is also co-author of Conquering Bad Dreams & Nightmares (Berkley Books, 1992) and has appeared in national radio, television and print media to discuss his innovative approaches to treating bad dreams.
Dr. Krakow graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He was residency trained and board certified in internal medicine and also has ten years of clinical work in emergency medicine. He is a member of the American Sleep Disorders Association and the Sleep Research Society. He is the current medical director of the University of New Mexico Sleep Research Center and the former medical director of University Hospital Sleep Disorders Center.
