About Charles D. Laughlin, Ph.D.

I took my Ph.D. in anthropology at the University of Oregon in 1972 and have done ethnographic fieldwork among the So (Tepeth) people of Northeaster Uganda, Tibetan Buddhist lamas in Nepal and India, Chinese Buddhists in Southeast Asia and the Navajo people of the American Southwest. I co-authored Biogenetic Structuralism, The Spectrum of Ritual, Brain, Symbol and Experience, and more recently authored Communing with the Gods: Consciousness, Culture and the Dreaming Brain. My specialties are the neurophenomenology and the ethnology of dreaming, including cross-cultural comparative research and Jungian theory.
