About Christoph Gassmann

Christoph Gassmann was born in 1954. In his teenage years he was deeply impressed by a radiant dream about a huge sun, rising above the horizon. He realized that within dreams there is a source of meaning and strength but did not find any acceptable answers in books. His choice of career was influenced by that dream and he became a psychologist and psychotherapist, only to find that knowledge about dreams among specialists is limited by doctrines and scientific worldviews. He also found that many clients had difficulties remembering their dreams and could not be motivated to work with them. It was in this that he realized western culture had lost its connection to the world of dreams in spite it's being an intrinsic factor of everybody’s life. He found that the pioneer work of Sigmund Freud was not of any help for establishing a positive view on dreams in the public eye. On the contrary, it helped to form unjustified fears with its theory of suppressed and embarrassing content. That was his motivation for writing books and creating a website to stimulate people to work with dreams and to instruct them in how to do it.

His goal is to inspire people to keep a dream journal, to bring dream work out of the corner of psychotherapy and mental illness, and to bring an interest in dreams back to a wider public.

My notes on the IASD
