About David Kahn, Ph.D.

I received my Ph.D. in physics from Yale University in 1962. My current interests are in understanding the ability of complex systems to self-organize. I have written and published on self-organizing systems; subjects include urban transportation, eusocial societies, embryonic development and the dreaming brain.

Academic Appointments:

1976 –1981 Visiting Scholar Month – long research appointments Department of Chemistry and Physics (Chair, Ilya Prigogine) Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium
1998 Visiting Professor 3 month appointment as at the Konrad Lorenz Institute, Altenberg, Austria
1999 Visiting Professor 3 month appointment as at the Konrad Lorenz Institute, Altenberg, Austria
1998–2004 Research Associate, Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School
2004–Present Instructor of Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School

My notes on the IASD

I joined ASD in 1992, in time to participate in the wonderful (and hot!) Santa Cruz Conference. The most compelling aspect of ASD for me has been and is the widely interesting members and the widely ranging interests of the members--from mythic journeying to exploring the connections between brain-body-mind using subjective dream reporting with brain imaging studies taken during waking and during dreaming. Truly ASD is unique in being able to attract such a diversity of interesting people and interesting views and vistas.
