Laura Atkinson – Three Images
Inspiration Explanation
My earliest handwritten dream journal started in 1993. Since November 2006, I have been digitally recording them via a WordPress blog. This allows me to categorize and code dreams, as well as search my dream database for certain words or phrases. My keywords for my contribution to the 2011 PsiberDreaming Art Gallery are "moon," "flowers/flora," and "butterfly." According to my notes, I recorded 11 dreams about the moon, 28 dreams tagged as flowers/flora, and 7 significant dreams about butterflies. A good portion of the dreams were lucid, and some were also coded with psi or mutual dreaming elements.
The photography technique I always keep in mind while shooting is inspired by a 2006 dream message: "Look for small patterns of beauty in every moment...be overwhelmed with the colors of simplicity."
The following images are based on an accumulation of dream messages and visual appearances of these keywords. All photography in this series is original, snapped by me on my frequent dream-walker photo safaris.
Butterfly Messages
Photography, 2011
Butterfly messages from dreams, 2007 - current.
Hundreds of multicolored butterflies fly into the air, surrounded by white and gold glittered butterflies, a window is covered in blue butterflies, three butterflies in the front seat, wearing an elaborate crown of butterflies, a little butterfly morphs into a very small lady with wings, a beautiful purple butterfly has been snared in a web, if the butterflies are hiding–I will come back another day.
Moon Messages
Photography, 2011
Moon messages from dreams, 1993 - current.
A man jumping on the moon, a silver ring with a moonstone, a small bear and half moon, the water was painted with speckles of the moon shine, sliver of the moon and it seems too close to the earth, surprised to see the sun and the moon at the same time, setting up my tripod to take photos of the moon, a mountain landscape and the moon is rising.
Flower Messages
Layered photography, 2011
Flower messages from dreams, 2007 - current.
I think she is a flower, but there are fairies' wings, arranging flowers into various vases, wildflowers on each table, little buds of colorful flowers all woven between the vines, a rock garden filled with wildflowers, the flower petals morph into fairies' wings, hats with flowers on the rims, a woman who is carrying a bushel of cut flowers, white buildings and bright red flowers.
