Sleep Deprivation

Sleep deprivation = not getting enough sleep.
It’s bad news. It can cause:

  • bad moods,

  • problems with thinking and memory (especially creative thinking),

  • accidents such as car crashes, and

  • falling asleep at the wrong time (such as when you are in school.)

Over the past 200 years, American adults have decreased their nightly sleep by about two hours. The average used to be about 9 ½ hours; now it is about 7 ½ hours.
